Thank you, William -

That pretty well covers my question, and adds to it as well.  I had noticed that in addition to #487, #497 had a wrong slant on the engineers side - but not #490 nor the fireman's side of any of the K-28's when the D&RGW was still running the Silverton branch in the nineteen-seventies.  (I presume in the case of the K-28's this had become policy, so it wasn't really "backwards" in the same sense as with the freight engines in the fifties & sixties.)

p.s. 2003 predates my own discovery of the NGDF in 2005 or thereabouts. (I just tried a search of Russo Loco's posts, but the oldest was in 2007 - and I'm pretty sure I started posting a couple of years before that.)

pps. Ah-yup - Russo also posted in September, 2005, re the C&TS upcoming 40th anniversary - only five years away!!   He probably posted earlier, but a search by author (above) only went back to 2007, and he can't remember a subject other than the 40th Anniversary that would date back to '05 or farther.
