Re: Lettering Dementians - Two Slanted Questions ... confused smiley

Hi, all -

In light of the recent sighting of #487 with incorrect (for the era being portrayed) NON-
erroneous forward-slanting Rio Grande lettering on her tender (see [ngdiscussion.net]
et seq), can any of you answer the following questions:

1.  WHEN was the incorrect fireman's side logo first applied to the engineer's side of #487's tender? (Ditto 497.)

2.  Was this just carelessness on the part of a shop crew, or had the correct engineer's side stencil been lost? *

3.  At which shop (Salida or Alamosa) did the first application of the slanted-the-wrong-way lettering first occur?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

* Or 'borrowed' by a foamer as a souvenir?
