In light of the recent sighting of #487 with incorrect (for the era being portrayed) NON-
erroneous forward-slanting
Rio Grande lettering on her tender (see [
ngdiscussion.net]
et seq), can any of you answer the following questions
:
1. WHEN was the incorrect fireman's side logo first applied to the engineer's side of #487's tender? (Ditto 4
97.)
2. Was this just carelessness on the part of a shop crew, or had the correct engineer's side stencil been lost?

3. At which shop (Salida or Alamosa) did the first application of the slanted-the-wrong-way lettering first occur?
