Mainly because it started out as an early-season commemoration of the May 25, 2010 charter. Then JBWX got reminded that he had some other commitments in early June, so - partly since there's a full moon on July 3 and partly 'cause the days are REALLY long at that time of year, giving us lots of time for afternoon shooting - it got postponed to June 30 - July 1, when the countryside - but NOT the locomotive - will hopefully be green next year and not dried out like this year.
Other considerations are that a pre-season charter can be really iffy - the crews are busy getting ready for opening day, there may be deep drifts of hard-packed snow that need to be cleared, washouts to fix, etc., etc.
; post-season seems to get plenty of charters already.

Thank You, Tom -
I'm hoping it won't go much over $750 with a helper - if that much - but there's also re-lettering the tenders (and maybe a caboose) to consider. And new management next year
