In the picture Roger posted (below), both halves of the gantry contraption are on the far side of the span that has been lifted out. Consequently, this picture appears to show that the truck-mounted crane was used to lift and place it on the trailer. This should have been a simple operation, since the span removed happened to be the span closest to the truck-mounted crane.
The same truck-mounted crane will likely be used to drop the replacement span into place. Heck, if there really are
"extra workers and overtime shifts into the night hours" as claimed in the Wednesday, 25 May 2011 12:16 C&TS press release, then the replacement span should have already been lowered into place by now.
The removal of this span might seem impressive, but you guys need to realize that it could have been done the very day that the truck-mounted crane showed up on site last month.
A much more important milestone will be when the gantry-contraption is successfully used to replace a span. I have no idea when that will happen - it might be tomorrow, it might be next week, or it might even be next month.
