the 40 or 8 boxcars were 4 wheel standard gauge cars. they were called 40 or 8 because they could carry 40 men or 8 horses on the way to the front. Many were built by the Kieth Mfg Co of Buzzards Bay, MA and shipped to France in 1917 through mid 1919. The French Government, in appreciation of the American war effort, sent 48 of them. laden with gifts, one to each state (there were only 48 states then) in celebration of the war's end. Many were placed on display at the state capitals, but all but a few have long since vanished. I would have to have a closer examinitaion of the car to determine if it is an actual 40 or 8 car, but it does have the general look of one.
