Re: Coach 310 stove

Hi Taylor, I don't know who made the stove for coach 310 but there were at least two companies that made stoves designed for rolling stock. Their names were the Ashley Company and the Baker Stove Works. The stoves were built with a special frame to allow bolting to the floor. Early stoves usually had a round cast iron body, painted with "stove black" heat paint. Some stoves had nickel plated trim pieces around the middle or on top. The door had a small window made of isen glass so the fire could be checked without opening the door. The Baker company also made a sheet metal stove jacket which acted as a shield around the stove in case someone fell against it. Around 1918 a more modern stove was intorduced. One of the biggest changes was the option of a baked on enamel finish which gave the railroads a choice of colors and patterns. The D&RGW ordered the stove with the wood grain pattern to match the interior of the coach.

Hope this helps, Stewart
