Berthod Pass, David. You must be thinking of the original Climax mine on Fremont Pass. It had an extensive 3' undergound railway complete with block signals, but the tunnel length wasn't that long.
At the Henderson Mine near the town of Berthoud, the mill was several miles away and the two were connected by a long haulage tunnel which drew ore out of the bottom of the Henderson and delivered it to the mill.
I did consulting work for both mines.
