Just sonething I wanted to add:
The only (at the monent, as far as I know) remaining active steam operated Rotary is based in Pontresina un the Bernina Pass line of the RhB (Rhaetische Bahn) and is on stand-by every winter.
It was built in 1910 to keep the line open in winters, specially after heavy snow storms and slides.
So since 100 Years this rotary almost annually was fiting agains stlides and very hard, frozen snow. Where is the abuse?
The rotary (X rot d 9213) is still in active service and a back-up for the more modern snow fighting equipment.
Once or twice a year the rotary is used for photographer specials.
See this
Youtube filns of one of them. I didn't find anything else, sorry.
Last Winter the steam rotary had to rescue a modern snowfighting train that was hit by a slie, it had to dig through this horrible packed snow and cut throug rocks, trees etc... Noone was talking of abuse, that's what a rotary is built for...
Have a nice day!
