I have sort of a technical question maybe someone can help with.
On another list I subscribe to, a question was posed about a conversion that was done to at least some 2-8-0 locomotives that were in service on the old South Park. Apparently, this conversion, apparently done in the late '80's or early '90's, involved replacing the main rods from the second driver to the third, and then back again later.
There has been some speculation as to whether the valve gear linkages might not have been moved during this brief time.
It would be my contention that if the valve linkage had not been moved, the valves would not work properly with even the slightest bushing wear if they were operated off a separate axle than the main rods. This would be true, right?
Thanks,
Mike
