Ive been avoiding piping in on this tired thread, but couldn't take it much longer: I am as tired of the conspiracy theories on the Lobato Trestle as I am of Roswell/Kennedy/Elvis sightings. If it were arson, a fire investigator would have found a source and evidence of accelerants. I say this because I worked ten years on a fire crew in New Mexico before becoming an engine captain and fire investigator. Every night in mountainious terrain wind comes downcanyon, often quite strong. Those who live have resided their entire lives in an armchair would not be able to observe this. Furthermore, embers can stay lodged and lit for weeks, and even months, waiting for just the right conditions. And to be more of a pooh bear spraying water on the trestle wouldnt help-the timbers are called 1000 hour fuels because they hold the average moisture over a 1000 hour cycle, which in New Mexico means the timbers will be very dry even during monsoon season. Wood trestles have always been vulnerable to burning, and always will. The people at the C&TS are not irrisponsible or negligant, nor is there a coverup.
