I've been reading with interest the saga of the C&TSRR's Lobato Trestle.
There are plans for a road for heavy equipment to be built and even a special "work train" outfit.
So there will be all sorts of massively powerful equipment to install new bridge components.
But how did they install that bridge in 1881 ? I'm assuming they had hand tools, block and tackles, and the tiny locomotives of the time. Did the railroad have a steam powered crane at that time ? How did they transport and install a multi-ton iron/steel structure with the simple tools of the time ?
And I wonder if it was installed during the winter ?
