The 486 has had significant run time this summer. I personally wouldn't qualify it as a back up to the others. It received as many, if not more days of service than the several of the other locomotives.
PS: If one wants to go into semantics:
Service [sur-vis]
Noun, Adjective, Verb, -iced, ic.ing.
-Verb (used with object)
1. To make fit for use; repair; restore to condition for service: Ex. to service an automobile.
2. To supply with...
I believe that should suffice.
In any case, I just felt that I wanted to state my case. It bothers me that instead of being intrigued or interested with the information posted, the first response is to point out what some believe to be flaws in semantics. It becomes frustrating to those who post, want to post, or simply read this forum. I understand others and their expressed dissatisfaction in the previously stated posts. In any case, my sincere apologies if "required servicing and testing" fell short to some. Perhaps a synonym for servicing, such as 'maintenance,' would have been a better fit for the subject in hand. In any case, I digress. One does well to embrace his/her hobbies and passions. Insignificant squabbling does nothing to forward these interests.
