Dale,

The new roof top car seat photos are dated 2008, but the other photos are dated 2007. I'd like to see current photos before I get too excited!

The statement that they "are offering steam from Duran to Yaguachi, Sibambe to Urbina, Latacunga to Quito" is a long way from saying that the railroad has reopened, but if true, it does represent a return to conditions of around 1995. Sibambe through Rio Bamba to Urbina is well worth the visit.

I note that Bucay to Sibambe is not mentioned. Too bad, as apart from the Devil's nose, this is the most interesting portion of the railroad, but also the most difficult, due to land slides and wash outs.

Still, keep your fingers crossed. These promises have been made several times over the last 10 years but nothing much ever comes of it. The money for one rehab project was used to buy SUV's for everyone in the ministry in Quito. Another was used to refurbish a couple of miles of track near Quito for a presidential campaign event, but only resulted in a train turning over and some children being killed. Not a good track record!
