Some years ago I saw a TV special that included footage of Buster Keaton, which was taken during the filming of "The Railroader". Keaton and some of the production crew were standing next to the tracks as an ALCO (Montreal?) road switcher came to a stop next to them. As it was stopping Keaton reached out and grabbed a hand rail. It looked exactly as if he had pulled the locomotive to a stop. The action was completely spontaineous, and shows what a great actor he really was. His timing was perfect; he judged the speed closely enough that he did not have to move his feet.
The locomotive sat a few moments and then started in reverse. Keaton again grabbed the hand rail and appeared to pull the lokey backwards. Again his timing was perfect. The RS started to move the instant he touched the railing.
