Sumpter Valley Passenger Operations

May 22, 2023 01:18PM avatar
From 1918 to about 1930 passenger operations on the Sumpter Valley Ry. seemed to have followed the same basic routine. Train 1 headed time table west out of Baker City in the morning bound for Bates at MP 60. Train 2 was the east bound counterpart which would leave Prairie City MP 80 late morning and meet Train 1 at Bates. Here we see the two consists side by side, probably while the crew and passengers were having lunch at the Oregon Lumber Co. hotel. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
