Here's hoping that the other missing one is found somewhere along the right-of-way too.
But it does bring up another question. Why were these left unguarded on the locomotive? We all know what happens to "items of interest" of a railway nature when on a locomotive put on display in a park, or even left unattended and accessible on a mainline railroad. Why would anyone ever think that the same wouldn't be true of C&TS stuff too.
My point is that ANYTHING up at Cumbres that can be removed easily (e.g. gauges, number boards, plates etc) should be either a) removed at the end of each operating day and stored properly, or b) kept under watch by a hired watchperson 24/7. I know - either way means added expense and aggravation, but who is to say that a bell won't be the next thing found missing some morning?
my $0.02 worth!!
