Here's a set of shots taken on the east side of Montgomery Pass at the first large fill about 3 miles from the summit. The "Then" shot is courtesy of Ron Grau and is reputed to be from the CSRM collection. It most likely was taken in the 1920's. It shows a stock train with both stock and box cars being used to carry livestock (notice the open box car doors with slats barring the opening). The "Now" shot was taken on June 19, 2010. It was difficult to line up the rocks perfectly to replicate the shot and it appears that the original may have been taken from a caboose window or the cab of the locomotive as I had to climb slightly up the bank behind me to get a better match. Notice many of the rocks are in the same locations and again many of the trees are still living.
