In the "land of little rain" (apologies to Mary Austin*) there are little changes. The Pinyon Pines of this region are said to live 300-500 years.

Isn't that the one we walked on and around last year? Looking at Google Earth I think the fill is located about 1.5 miles from the summit.

* Mary Austin spent some of her early years in the Owens Valley and once lived in Independence. She wrote a number of books with the Great Basin as their local. The first one (1903) was a collection of stories and it was titled: Land of Little Rain.
