Was the cost based on a steamer or a diesel?
Two or three scheduled trips a day with just a few cars pushed, then pulled, by a diesel would at least keep that end of the railroad active.
The Ashby's may be more favorable to leasing the 130 or 140 to the C&TS for such an operation than one of the steamers.

If the experience is bad, then no, you don't want that. If it's good, then they may leave wanting more and may look forward to coming back when Labato is repaired and the steamers are pulling the trains again.
I'd much rather see a diesel pulling a train than no trains at all.
