Since Eureka is supposed to be pulling some of these cars, and in particular the 311, my feeling on the matter is that I believe this will be a great opportunity to make memories. Railfest is supposed to be a festive occasion, a celebration of narrow gauge railroading. This will be the first time Eureka has pulled anything green in 135 years, and I'm really looking forward to it. Besides, the E&P cars were originally straw yellow and later maroon. The E&P never had their cars painted green. So, this will be a first.
As for the flags, I fully intend on flying Old Glory and the Nevada flag, in addition to the white flags. Old Glory and the Nevada flag will not be up there all the time. I dont want those flags to get beat up while zipping across the wilderness. But, for the parade of trains and stuff like that, they will be up and flying proudly! However, the white flags will in all liklihood be up there most of the time. It a railroad thing and very appropriate. Also, I'm sure the Presidential train will be appropriately flagged.
I learned a long time ago that while it is sometimes neat to recreate a certain period, for Eureka at Railfest that is not an option. Let someone else 50 years from now look back and remember what a great time we all had in 2010. For this event, we will make memories today for the future.
That's my 2 cents on the subject.
