Nathan's answer (above) describes what I would recommend - ride the train from Antonito
to Cumbres, with lunch at Osier and a bus return from Cumbres to Antonito.
Or stay in Chama, ride the early-morning bus to Antonito, ride the train from Antonito to
Cumbres, and then ride the bus from Cumbres to Chama.
IMHO, starting from Antonito - especially since there are no double-headers from Chama to Cumbres - is the only way to go. The landscape just gets gradually more and more spectacular as you climb into the mountains, along the side of a very deep valley, and through two tunnels with the Los PiƱos River more than 650 feet below.
