The Casey Jones is owned by the historical society in Silverton. It runs, but needs somework on the electrical system. I rode it several years ago from the Durango roundhouse to about 2 miles above Tacoma when the battery died because it was not charging. We coasted back to Tacoma to clear the main line and caught the Cascade train back to Durango. It has made the complete run on its own power. The Casey would be available, but it is somewhat fragile and should be restricted to occasional service. My thoughts were along something more substantial for daily service. There is a new rail vehicle under construction at Tacoma right now for use by the Xcel Energy guys and I'm trying to get some pictures of that. I heard about it tonight at dinner from one of the power company employees.
The Casey is a pretty rough riding piece of equipment, and very noisy. It needs spring replacement. The view from the rear passenger compartment is not at all good, but still is a treat to ride.
