The mesa I found after lunch juts out from a much larger mountain, and is situated between two of the three or four large bridges on the former AT&SF's newer eastbound line approaching Kingman. Finally, after I waited for about three hours, an eastbound high-priority intermodal train passed by

Note the steeper westbound line along the bottom of the canyon to the lower left and Old-Old-Old Route 66 (which dead-ends a mile or so farther west) between the two levels of the railroad

The long wait over at last, I headed west once again. Around midnight, west of Needles, it was time for another break. The moon, late enough on Tuesday, was REALLY late coming up on Friday night, and took a while to get high enough to be seen above a train. Then it was another wait of over an hour for a train to show up
