Forest Fires in the past

Out of curiosity, as I have no clue where to begin to even look, were there forest fires back in the day when the narrow gauge circle was still intact?

I cannot recall reading about a single one. It doesn't mean there weren't fires, just the books I read were focused on trains and not much else.

I do recall reading about this building or that town burning down, but not a widespread forest fire.
