Al Harper and his family and guests will be riding The General Palmer on the first passenger train into Silverton on Saturday, May 8. We will also be running a second section on that date!
The public is invited to join us for a complimentary continental breakfast from 10-11:30am at the Silverton Depot to welcome the trains' arrival to Silverton. Period-dressed folks from Mrs. Camp's Town Ladies & Gents will be there to welcome & wave the train in.
Period-dressed folks from the Victorian Aid Society will portray pioneers onboard the trains and mingle with the guests.
After a long winter it's always cause to celebrate the first train to Silverton.
If you're in Durango on Friday, May 7, plan to come to our annual Narrow Gauge Day community picnic on the front lawn. The community donates most of the hot dogs, buns, cookies, and soda. The Bar D Wranglers (from Bar D Chuckwagon) will sing for you and the Peanuts characters (Snoopy & Charlie Brown) will be there to greet folks. The museum is open to the public and we'll have a couple premium class cars to 'tour' through. In a commitment to reduce the D&S carbon footprint, Al Harper has once again purchased small trees to give to the public to plant and nurture! Last year we served over 2,000 hot dogs!
