Maybe Dave would have had to have gone up on the hill south of highway 50, above the cut and west of the houses to get a similar view.

This is an overlay of the V&T valuation map from the 1915 era overlaid onto a Google aerial image. This is after the narrow gauge was gone and a different connection was made for the new standard gauge line. Also little traffic was going via the V&T to the SP here as there was the connection out of Hazen.

About 35 years ago the V&T rails were still in the highway; then they improved the road and they disappeared. Later, I remember Dale Darney who studied the V&T once pointing out on a site visit that the road into the houses south of the highway (next to the small strip of shops) was the old V&T grade.
