I believe that the upper photo actually dates from early 1905.

A professional photographer from Cheyenne, Wyoming, by the name of Stimson took this photo during a trip to Tonopah and Goldfield (and return). The line into Tonopah was still 3' gauge so this was 1905. His photos in Tonopah show SPC box and flat cars and a D&RG class 56 2-8-0 in Tonopah.

Also note the narrow gauge track on the east side of the depot. A few months later during the Spring of 1905 the C&C (under control of the SP) began converting to standard gauge.
