Our guide was one of the engineers there. He seemed to be pretty up on things, but he could not explain the brake system used in a way that made sence to me. He told me it was a "air over steam" brake that used an air vavle to send steam through hoses to the cylinders in the cars. Even in Florida, I don't see how you could get anything but hot water in the system more than 3 cars back. The engines are interesting in that there is no brakes on the engine and tender - none. They rely on train brakes alone. If you are moving the engine light, you put it reverse to stop it.
