Re: On a boiler tap, what does NS stand for?

Machinery's Handbook says that NS stands for National Standard. Apparently the name has been changed at least 3 times. The thread form has been called U.S.Standard, National Standard and
now American Standard.
The Whitworth Standard Thread is a British standard.
Machinery makes note that " Some modified V-threads,for locomotive boiler taps particularly,
have a depth of 0.8 x pitch."
