There was a problem getting No. 40 onto the barge from Skagway to Seattle. The timing is going to be very, very tight to get the loco down to Golden in time for reassembly for the steam-up (Dec 1-2). We're bringing one of Georgetown's diesels down the hill as "backup" power in case no. 40 doesn't make it in time so we can still operate.
HOWEVER, through the cooperation of the folks in Georgetown, we're planning a first-ever WINTER steam-up on Jan. 12-13, 2002 with no. 40.
Regarding no. 346, nothing critical has been found inside the boiler to date other than a few bad rivets. The inspection still needs to address the flange where the steam dome meets the boiler shell, an area of concern.
