The coaches slated for this historical transformation are as follows:
Jackson & Sharp 1880-81 built coaches 270, 291, and 311 all sporting the original style Buntin walk-over seats and ornate interior woodwork detailing. Baggage-RPO 566 originally buit as Mail car 14 by the D&RGW in 1882.
Yes, it would have been ideal to have a combine or baggage car available, but the D&RGW destroyed the historical integrity of both combine 212 and baggage 126 when they were shipped off to the Burnham Shops in the late 1970's for scribed steel siding applications. Both cars unfortunately emergerd from that overhaul in a dramatically altered standard windowed-coach configuration.
Baggage-RPO 566 and the three coaches will make a beautiful period consist to enjoy for the coming year!
On a Railfest sidebar, Special events spanning the two-day gap between the D&S Railfest and the C&TS 40th are also in the final planning stages, including a Wednesday guided auto tour of the abandoned Right-of-Way from Durango to Chama being organized and led by a local "expert" on that area.
This amazing "Regional Event" is coming together... Stay tuned!
