"Animas Forks" was originally Pulman 10-section/buffet sleeper "Salida", used in the D&RW/D&RGW Denver-Salt Lake/Ogden service. Built to Pullman plan 178. Delivered 10/23/83, used on D&RG until 1903, purchased by SN in '06, derailed in '08 and rebuilt with a large obs. platform. Derailed again in '11 & put into storage. dismantled in '20.
There were six cars in this series (Castle Gate, Cimarron, Ogden, Provo, Salida & Salt Lake).
Castle Gate was destroyed in service in 1893.
Cimarron & Ogden(renamed Dolores in 1899, rblt to plan 178A in 1900) went to Tonopah RR in '04, NC&O in '06 (or '11) & renamed Alturas & Madeline.
Provo destroyed in fire at Burnham in 1899. It had been renamed Durango in 1899.
Salt Lake was renamed Ouray(1899), rblt to plan 178A(1900),wrecked on Marshall Pass(1901), bought by D&RG(1902) and rblt as parlor car (D&RG's 1st) dismantled 1938.
CRRA #25 has plans of the original cars (side & floor) on pg 274. it has the folio for Ouray (nee Salt Lake) on pg 240 and a picture of Ouray in service in 1932 on pg 241.
_Rainbow Route_ has a copy of the floor plan (orig & as rblt in 1909) and it must have a picture or two somewhere in it but I'm to lazy to look.
