Hi,
I was re-reading the Colorado Rail Annual 1963. A reprint of this is in the Collected Colorado Rail Annuals (I have copies of both the 1963 and the collected annuals).
It was interesting that there is a list of what the D&RGW roster for 1963 was.
In 1963, the number of steam locomotives on the roster dropped from 22 to 15. Locomotives removed were 464 (last operating date unknown), 482, 486, 489, 494, and 495. these were no scrapped - just "set aside."
Of these six locos, it is interesting that 464, 482, 486, and 489 have been operating post D&RGW.
I'm not sure if this summary has been put in one place before, but according to the one page article, the K27 weighs 112 tons, K28 - 127, K36 - 143 tons, and the K37 - 153.5 tons.
As far as freight equipment goes, there were 1203 freight cars:
298 box
252 stock
213 gon
159 "side dump" coal
20 open end gons
166 flat
Union Tank car had 25 cars on line - 16 having been scrapped at La Jara and 16 shipped to the WP&Y
Eleven (11) cabooses were on line "although one of these is actually an outfit car, and one or two others are distinctly 'bad order' ."
Passenger cars:
1 baggage
1 combine
3 open platform coaches
4 vestibule coaches
1 Alamosa Parlor car turned into a coach
2 new steel "just completed" coaches
I would be interested in seeing what was around in 1968 at the end of operations.
Based on the 1963 roster, about 8% of the roster was preserved by the C&TS. An amazing amount. The only other line I know of that might have more preserved (as a percentage of that that was there when common carrier operations ended is the EBT.
FWIW
