I do not recall what magazine had an article on it, but up in Pennsylvania's oil country, there was a narrow gauge that crossed a standard gauge railroad. When the NG went to SG, the line it crossed said that the former NG could not SG the diamond. It went to court and eventually the former NG was allowed to SG the diamond. In the 18-odd months (IIRC) the issue was in the courts, the former NG had a NG loco and flat car at the site. The flat car had SG rails on it and the SG locos and cars were ferried across the NG diamond on the NG. There was a prototype photo as well as a photo of a model I think.
