Bruce, this detailed station map might answer some of your questions. It looks like that section of track was at a substantially different level than the shop tracks. This map shows a cable operated incline and a hoist house situated south of the turntable.

I'll have to see if I can find any photos of this.

The turntable was relocated at some point. It seems that a mine cave in caused it to sink. The depot was also relocated as more strip mining went on. The line only lasted until 1920. I have read that in the early days the locomotives had no headlights as they only ran during the day. I have a photo of a headlight less 2-6-0. The locomotives also looked a little bit cluttered with a second sand dome.
