I hadn't heard that one, but it sure is a good story (the truth should never get in the way of a good story
and one I'd love to remember to repeat to the passengers when I'm conducting sometime.
I bet there are some similarly humorous rr anecdotes out there. A couple come to mind I have heard with regard to the SVRy, but I think you could substitute a lot of different rr's.
Short anecdote #1 which is partially true: A woman gave birth on the Baker bound SVRy passenger train as they were descending Larch with the conductor attending. The trip was so long and slow, the lady hadn't been pregnant when she boarded the train.....
Short anecdote #2 An SVRy freight was rattling along with the brakeman in the caboose dozing off. The train hit some particularly smooth track, the brakeman woke up with a start and immediately thought it was so smooth the train must be on the ground so he jumped off.....
