The Museum of the American Railroad is still shoehorned into an outdoor exhibit area on the State Fairgrounds. If you get to Dallas there are a number of other history museums that you can check into and find out how they handle collections and exhibits. The is quite a diversity just on the fairgrounds site.

Up in Frisco, Texas, the City of Frisco has established a history museum to tell all the new residents about the history of the community. This is located a few blocks from the future site for the Museum of the American Railroad. It is a very nice one. As of last year, the staffing of the museums was from the library, but the city had hired some of the executive staff of the Museum of the American Railroad on a part-time basis to administer to the city museum.

Once again, look at and talk to other kinds of history museums. Once you get past the sometime different subject matter, they all have the same problems and concerns.
