Jerry, Thanks for the great information, as usual. I had always assumed the opposite for the 070 and 071 blade configuration.
THe Old style blades on the last ALCO rotary mentioned is strange but that rotary is still around. It was built as NP #42 and became BN 972554 stationed in Alliance, NE
The Portland Rotaries were all built in order.
#34 1/1891 NP 6 Has the new style blade later Camas Prairie 24
#35 1/1891 RGS #1 Narrow gauge Assume this was the older blade Canada
#36 10/1891 D&RG #3 later D&RGW 070 Scrapped 1940
#37 1/1892 RGS #2 NG Old style blade Boiler expl. 1949 scrp 1952
#38 1/1892 CRI&P No blade information but assume new style scrpd 50's
#39 1/1892 FE&MV New blade C&NW D stationed in Chadron, NE scrpd '55
I have some sort of picture of almost all of the 144 rotaries but the some of the Portlands have eluded me. I don't have #35, #36, or #38 if anyone has a photo.
