I'll second "Simichrome" as the polish of choice for just about anything. Though I've found it to be agressive and best to be careful using it on plated surfaces. Like Tom said, you can get a near perfect mirror finish with this product.

Bright Boy is a close second. Less agressive than Simichrome thus requires more elbow grease, but gets the job done very nicely. I've seen it used on a few historic pieces of equipment before a day of runing with wonderful results.
