The Jul/Aug 1990 edition of the Gazette features a plan of a typical Rio Grande bridge. This one is 62' long and the one at Hermosa is 64'. This plan shows the vertical rods decreasing in diameter towards the center of the bridge.

The diameters from an end of the bridge to the center:
2 1/2"
2 1/4"
1 3/4"
1 1/2"

I used this plan to build one for my garden railway but didn't vary the size of the rods. I picked a size that I could thread it was either 00-90 or 0-80, I forget now.
