I had to go back to my pictures to be sure but...it was 1998 that she developed the leaky flues...in September.
I was on the Photographers Special that year and we stopped and traded engines on the way back to Durango because 473 couldn't build up enough steam to climb her way into Silverton. They took 482 (our engine) on Silverton and we limped home with 473.
478 had the Flying Grande on her tender that same weekend.
