More 'en likely it was headed to California.
In the 1980's in preparation for the SPSF Merger that was forthcoming. the AT&SF divested itself of it's collection of historic equipment. Much of this equipment was stored in the Albuquerque Roundhouse before its demise in the early 80's The two big steamers, the 2925 4-8-4 & 5021 2-10-4 steamers were originally stored in Belen, before that structure met the wrecking ball, and the loke's were moved to ABQ in the 1970's,
In "Tumbleweeds and Fast Freights" there's a photo on page 160 of the "deadline" of equipment which included the two super power steamers, Alco Switchers, an FM-Trainmaster, plus other oddball pieces of equipment, in the ABQ Coachyards (Now Our Service/Storage Yard). If you look towards the rear of the photo, you can see the "5" (I aint calling it THAT) on a flatcar towards the Central Avenue underpass.
