"496 must have had a flaw in the drawbar casting. There wasn't that much weight on fairly level track. It is interesting that they used an SG Loco to rescue the train. The Ala switcher maybe? JP"

Accident report reads: "Defective bolts, 2 with 50% old break"

Engine 1007 was being used on the Creede branch and for the Antonito turn. On this date it had been used for the Antonito turn.

Just for the sake of interest Alamosa switch engines for this date were 38, for 2 shifts and 932 for 2 shifts.

Engine 38 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Engine 38 3:00 PM - 6:10 AM

Engine 932 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Engine 932 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
