It's hard to tell from your photos - I presume this model / simulation of #461 has the
offset linkage to the inboard piston valves. (See [
ngdiscussion.net].)
IIRC, the reason for these "inboard" valves was an initial conversion from slide valves to
piston valves, but retaining the original Stephenson valve gear; the new cylinder saddles
were cast so the valve stems would line up with the old valve gear. When they were
later
converted from Stephenson to Wahlshearts gear several years later, an offsetting 'crank'
was added to avoid the expense of replacing the cylinder saddles again.
