dbx,
The older bench above the curve has been removed. Two years ago some of the old volunteers started a drive to honor my son, Brian Gould, who was killed in a horrific traffic accident on Nov 16, 2006, Brian was a Museum employee and volunteer from 1979 thru 1984. A bench was purchased from donations from many, many, current and old volunteers. The area just to the right of the old bench was leveled and the memorial bench installed, An appropriate plaque is affixed to the bench. A Boy Scout troop took on the area as an Eagle Scout project and made a retaining wall and laid flagstones around the bench adding a sandstone marker explaining the bench. You can still sit in the shade and relect on what has been and what's going on now. Great photo-op location. The old bench had cement footings, my son and I re-arranged that bench several times, as it kept getting tipped over and moved. The new bench is still accessible.
