OT - going to the movies

December 02, 2014 09:36AM
Hi,

In the thread about ng movies, it dawned on me that many younger people (born after the middle 1970s) might not understand what going to the movies was in the 1930s and 1940s.

Today, we go and see the feature film and that's all.

In the 1960's, I recall going and mostly it was a cartoon and the feature film (as well as previews).

In the 1930's and 1940s, my Mom said that there was a cliff hanger (Buck Rogers, or western or other more or less grade B movie - sort of like TV episodes today), a news reel (little or no TV and in an era that most people got their news from newspapers), a cartoon, and the feature film.

FWIW
