I remember visiting Telluride in the late 60's or early 70's when it still looked like a mostly abandoned mining town. We got there around lunch time and found a mom and pop greasy spoon on the main drag that served burgers and some regional soda in a can. It was in some old building where the wooden floor creaked and had that "old" smell. If I remember correctly, some of the lots were strewn with old equipment or vehicles and overgrown. I was in my early teens at the time and thought it was a beautiful and fascinating area.
My wife and I met up with my parents in Ouray sometime in the late 80's and took a side trip to Telluride. I was astonished when we got there. The town was unrecognizable.
