They look like Willison couplers, as used in the US in industrial applications, (and the Oregon Zoo Railroad.)

They pull against a rigid part, and the movable parts lock them together, in contrast to the knuckle coupler, which pulls against a moveable part.
I think Russian couplers are similar.
