Seems a man may have committed suicide today behind Durango High School, by laying himself on the track ahead of the first returning train from Silverton. The man, who is unidenfied, was decapitated. I'm sure the crew is having a difficult time right now dealing with this. I hope they do OK.
Was wondering ... one local historian says he can't remember any deaths on the D&SNG in several decades. But I recall hearing of incident sometimes in 1980s in which employee died, perhaps while boarding a moving train in Rockwood? Anybody know the particulars? Not necessarily for publication, but just to help a reporter get started finding the facts.
A story/photo (it's not grisly, don't worry) will be on the Herald's web site Wednesday. I'll be here until Midnight today, but will be off for a few days after that.
Thanks for any help! And I enjoy reading the discussion group.
