After so many years of living here, the first day of the train running to Silverton almost comes as a routine event, like clockwork, with little recognition of all the work and effort it takes each year for the D&RGW and later the D&S to get engines, cars, and track in shape for the summer runs. But it is an event eagerly awaited by most of the town and it brings out a lot of people to see that first train roll in, complete with brass band playing. I neglected to take pictures on May 4 because I wanted to be camera free for a change and just enjoy what I saw. So, a week later, I took some pictures just to record the start of another season--engines, cars and personnel all appear to be in tip top shape and in good spirits:
